At a recent virtual event that we had the pleasure of attending; Johnnie Walker’s master blender Dr Emma Walker, one of a team of 12 globally, hosted a whiskey masterclass for the iconic brand. The masterclass was a deconstructed tasting, where participants got to experience the four corner whiskies that makeup Johnnie Walker Black Label.
Dr Walker provided a detailed look into the art of blending, ageing, and taste profiling, showcasing the expertise and skill in creating the multi-award-winning blend. Virtual attendees had received a package with all you would need for this experience.
We tasted the individual whiskies from the four corners of Scotland to see how they come together to form the rich, smooth, and flavorful Johnnie Walker Black Label.
The Art of Mixology:
Dr Walker provided a step-by-step walkthrough on how to make each cocktail, highlighting the flavours and ingredients that complement this smooth whiskey and create a perfect balance. It was great seeing the master blender in action and learning the art of mixology.

As a participant in the virtual masterclass, StyleNerds Journal got to learn how to make classic cocktails using Johnnie Walker whiskey.
Our favourites were the Johnnie Walker Gold Rush, made with Johnnie Walker Gold Label Reserve, lemon juice, honey syrup, and ginger ale. You can taste the uniqueness of Johnnie Walker in this cocktail. After the virtual tasting, we were excited to try out the Johnnie Walker Whiskey Sour, made with Johnnie Walker Black Label, lemon juice, sugar syrup, and egg white. It was exciting to follow the easy steps and experience the cocktail. Does this mean we can be your next bartender Johnnie Walker? *sips cocktail*
The cocktail-making segment added another dimension to the masterclass, giving participants a hands-on experience with the brand and a taste of the versatility of Johnnie Walker whiskey. Whether enjoyed neat or in a classic cocktail, the versatility and quality of Johnnie Walker were on full display during the masterclass which was a first of its kind.
What An Experience:
The cocktail session was a great segway to the next part of the roundtable where we went down the rabbit hole of the Johnnie Walker brand.
The masterclass provided an intimate and unique experience for StyleNerds Journal as we got to learn all things Johnnie Walker and we were thoroughly impressed.
Dr Walker shared her passion for whiskey and the history of Johnnie Walker, making the event both educational and enjoyable.
